DigitCodemy, in partnership with Times NIE conducted 21st century skill workshop on the intriguing topic ” Artificial Intelligence and The Creative Process” as a part of summer internship program for middle and high school students on 13th April 2022 in SKEI Bangalore.

Students across Bangalore schools participated enthusiastically to enrich their Tech Skills.

The workshop on AI and the creative process for was a highly interactive and informative session. The workshop started with a brief introduction to AI, explaining what it is and how it works. AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, which means machines and computers are programmed to simulate human intelligence and perform tasks that typically require human cognition, such as learning, problem-solving, perception, decision-making, and natural language processing.

Next, the facilitator discussed whether a device can be AI or not. It was explained that a device can have AI features, such as a smart speaker like Alexa or Siri, but it is not entirely AI. The device has programmed responses that are activated by specific keywords or commands.

An activity was conducted to help children understand how AI works. The children were asked to create a chatbot that can answer simple questions. This activity helped children understand how chatbots can be used in various fields like customer service, education, and healthcare.

The question of whether computers can be as creative as humans was addressed next. It was explained that AI can create content like music, art, and literature that mimic human creativity, but they are not entirely human-like. It was also explained that AI cannot replicate human emotions, experiences, or values, which play a significant role in creativity.

A story writing activity was conducted to compare the stories created by children with those written by ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a language model that was able to write stories based on the prompts given to it. It was explained that ChatGPT uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to generate coherent sentences and paragraphs.

The children were fascinated to see how ChatGPT could write stories and asked how it was able to do so. The facilitator explained that ChatGPT was trained on a large corpus of text and was programmed to predict the most likely word or phrase that follows a given prompt.

The difference between chatbots and search engines was also discussed. It was explained that chatbots are designed to simulate human-like conversations, whereas search engines provide information in response to queries.

The importance of AI knowledge for school children was highlighted, and the benefits and risks of AI were discussed. The benefits of AI include increased efficiency, accuracy, and convenience, while the risks include job displacement, bias, and ethical concerns.

Overall, the workshop on AI and creative process for school children was a great success, providing an interactive and engaging way to learn about AI and its applications.
